But thanks to cutting edge technology, researchers in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate are getting new perspectives on what’s happening in Earth’s atmosphere. Uncovering the secrets of soil health Soil surrounds us, lying just under our feet, but there is still much we don’t know about the living soil. Soil contains billions of living organisms, from worms and insects to microscopic fungi and bacteria. It’s one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth.
